In the past April, there were 3 consecutive draws, week after week, with the last one – on 19.4.17 – drawing 3,665 candidates with a score of 415 and above.
Since the entry of the new Minister of Immigration, Ahmed Hussen, in January this year, we have witnessed a significant decrease in the score of candidates drawn in the Express Entry system.
With each draw that occurs, we find it difficult to believe the new score threshold and wonder, how much further will the score drop?
There is no doubt that the new scoring system renders the Ontario stream, which requires a score above 400 points and a provincial fee of $1500, irrelevant, similar to other provincial immigration streams for those with high scores. The significant advantage of pursuing a federal process is a substantial shortening of the immigration process to just a few months, savings on fees, and most importantly, no obligation to live in a specific province.
Many who are already registered in the Express Entry system may not be aware that if they had improved and made a little more effort with a repeat IELTS test, they might have been able to exceed 400 points and continue with the federal stream.
Our recommendation is, don’t give up on yourselves! Do everything in your power to maximize your score.
An additional technician or engineering diploma alongside a degree can also lead to a significant increase in points. Therefore, those who have only had their degrees evaluated, this is the right time to update the education assessment with a recognized diploma for which you studied for a year or two.
For the IELTS test, to reach almost the maximum score, the following scores are required: Listening – 8, Reading, Speaking, Writing – 7, meaning CLB 9. It’s true that this test is exhausting and annoying, but if there’s a chance to improve it – now’s the time!
There are test dates in Israel in the upcoming month of May and then in August. There are still places available for new registrants.
For those who have already been drawn, this is undoubtedly a very joyful time, and we at UCI offices wish you much success.

It is highly advisable to avoid changes in the application itself compared to the data you submitted in the profile itself, and in general, it is very important to pay attention to every detail, both small and large.
