Everything you wanted to know about Express Entry
The Express Entry program is a management system for immigration applications to Canada, designed to facilitate the immigration process for skilled workers.
The system operates on a scoring basis, where applicants receive points according to various criteria, such as age, education level, work experience, language skills, and more.
Immigration to Canada through the Express Entry program represents an expedited application process for permanent residency for candidates who are in one of the four government economic programs:
- Federal Skilled Workers – The government program for professionally trained workers – the Canadian Immigration Department prioritizes individuals with professional training who can contribute their expertise to the country’s economy. To be eligible for Express entry, you first must have minimum 67 points to open the profile.
- Federal Skilled Trades – The government program for certifying tradespeople, designed for professionals in technical and commercial fields – if you are found eligible in terms of professional skills for integration into the country’s economy, this is where you will undergo professional placement according to the government’s needs in terms of employers and provinces requiring workers.
- Canadian Experience Class – The program for those with Canadian professional experience – for those who are temporary workers who have already gained experience and professional connections within Canada and are awaiting permanent residency approval.
- Provincial Nominee Program – A provincial immigration program that is unique and different in each province according to local labor market requirements.
What do you need to do to be a candidate in the Express Entry pool?
To be a candidate in Canada’s Express Entry pool, you must meet several conditions and take several steps. Here is the general guide:
- Eligibility check: Make sure you meet the requirements of one of the categories mentioned above that allow for Express Entry submission.
- Education assessment: Perform an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) for education you received outside of Canada.
- Language tests: You need to pass a language proficiency test (such as IELTS or CELPIP for English, or TEF for French) to assess your language level.
- Create a profile: Create an Express Entry profile on the Canadian government website, where you will need to fill in information about your skills, education, work experience, and language.
- Receive a score: Your profile will receive a score (CRS Score) according to Canada’s scoring system. The score includes parameters such as age, education, work experience, language skills, and more.
- Invitation to apply: If your score is high enough, you can receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for a permanent work visa.
- Submit the application: After receiving the invitation, you must submit a complete application with all required documents within the required time frame.
Of course, being in the Express Entry process does not guarantee eligibility for permanent residency approval (ITA), and still requires all documents and procedures under Canadian immigration law.
