Immigration to Canada on a professional basis

Immigration to Canada on a professional basis

Immigration to Canada on a professional basis is mainly carried out through Canada’s economic immigration programs. There are several ways to do this, basically, the process includes assessing your professional skills, presenting work experience, and sometimes also presenting language test results and conducting an educational assessment. Here are some of the main programs:

  1. Express Entry

This is one of the most popular ways to immigrate to Canada, and it is intended for people with professional skills. The Express Entry system accepts candidates for three main tracks:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP): Intended for people with professional experience, education, and skills in English or French.
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP): Intended for people with experience in specific trades such as construction, electricity, mechanics, and more.
  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC): Intended for those who have work experience in Canada.

The system is based on a score (CRS – Comprehensive Ranking System), where you get points according to work experience, education, age, language skills, and more. The higher the score, the higher your chances of receiving an invitation to apply for a work permit or permanent visa.

  1. Employer-Specific Work Permit

If you have a job offer from a Canadian employer, you can apply for an employer-specific work permit. In this case, the employer must submit the application to prove that no suitable local candidates were found for the position. This permit gives you the option to work in Canada for a limited time.

  1. Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

Each province in Canada can select candidates who can fill positions in its labor market. If you have the required skills in a particular province, you can apply to be nominated there. This process can lead to obtaining a visa to Canada, and then after a few years, you can apply for permanent residency.

  1. Study Permit

If you are interested in studying in Canada and receiving higher education, you can apply for a student visa. After completing your studies, you may be able to apply for a temporary work permit, and then apply for the Canadian immigration program. Canada encourages its university and college graduates to stay in the country and work.

What is usually required:

  • Work experience: There is usually a requirement for at least one year of work experience in a professional field.
  • Education: A degree or recognized professional certification.
  • Language test: You need to present results from a language test like IELTS/CELPIP.
  • Skills assessment: You can apply for an assessment of education and professional skills through the appropriate Canadian organization (ECA).

Immigration to Canada can be complex, so it is advisable to consult with a qualified immigration consultant who will help you understand your options and submit applications correctly.
