Recruitment through International Job Fairs

A Lesser-Known Pathway to Immigrate to Canada – Recruitment through International Job Fairs

While today the options for obtaining permanent residency from outside Canada have become more limited, there is another pathway – not widely known – that combines finding an employer with the possibility of obtaining permanent residency.

Who is this pathway for?

It is intended for candidates in highly in-demand professions, such as:

  • Healthcare workers

  • Truck drivers

  • Manual laborers

  • Sewing machine operators and tailors

  • And more.

Although Canada has reduced immigration quotas across the provinces, as of today there still remains an important opportunity for those who meet the requirements. It is important to understand that the process is not simple and requires patience, determination, investment – and at times, a bit of luck – but it can certainly present a real opportunity.

How does it work?

In several provinces across Canada, there is a shortage of workers in specific professions. When local recruitment is not possible, the provinces turn to international recruitment through job fairs abroad.

At these fairs, candidates are given the opportunity to present themselves to employers, receive support in obtaining a work permit, and even get assistance in the immigration process leading to permanent residency.

Unlike the regular pathway, which requires a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), here the support is provided directly by the employer and the province – making the process simpler and more accessible.

Important to know

In recent years, many foreign workers have entered Canada through various programs – from work permits, to refugee programs, to open work permits for citizens of countries affected by war (such as Ukraine, Iran, and even Israel).

As a result, the number of job fairs has decreased significantly, but from time to time, major recruitment events are still being held.
One such example is the fair led by the Province of New Brunswick, located in Eastern Canada.

In conclusion

For those of you who are still in Israel and have not yet received a 3-year work permit – this is an additional pathway that can support your goal of integrating into Canada and achieving permanent residency through a slightly different route.
